New Idea: East Coast Summer Tour
I’ve been focusing on convention shows for so many years now, it’s been a LONG time since I actually did a road-trip tour. Partially because the con gigs are so much fun and partially because gas prices have sucked like a Harley Davidson powered shop vac.
Well, gas prices are in the nostalgia-inducingly low range again, so let’s see if we can put some miles on the odometer.
Looking at my mailing list, it seems that most folks are (unsurprisingly) located along the I-95 corridor from New Hampshire down to DC. I’d like to try and set up a 10-date summer tour, with your help, and actually do some traveling outside of geek conventions.
My goal is to hit these cities within a 2-week span:
- Nashua, NH
- Boston, MA
- Providence, RI
- New Haven, CT
- New York, NY
- Philadelphia, PA
- Baltimore, MD
- Washington D.C.
…and add a couple extra shows in between them.
I Need Your Help
Since I don’t have an agent or publicist working for me, I’ll need some serious help pulling this off. I don’t really know anything about MOST of these cities, so your feedback at this early phase will be very important.
- Is this a good idea?
- Do you live anywhere near these cities?
- Are there better cities along this corridor that I should shoot for instead?
- Do you know of any perfect venues or festivals I should play in these areas? (You know, places that are original-music-centric, GLBT-friendly, etc., not cover-band dive bars or open mic nights.)
The plan is to work up a solid budget, start booking venues, and spend a month or two raising funds via Kickstarter to help us with travel costs, publicity, promotion, merch to sell, etc.
I’d love to do this in July, August, or September, when the weather’s still good, so the planning has to start NOW. What do YOU think?
