Wasting My Time – Officer’s Club Edition
This month’s B&C revisit goes to the lead track, Wasting My Time. Unlike every other track on the album, this one already had real drums recorded… only now I’ve got better tools and better ears for mixing.
Because it’s the lead track, this one absolutely needed more punch. Again, I am not re-recording the vocals, but bringing Dickson’s snare and kick a lot further out front helped give this song the impact I feel it always deserved.
Balancing just four instruments (compared to, like, twelve for Latté Days & Porter Nights) was surprisingly difficult. Each part had to be meticulously EQ’ed since I couldn’t just re-record a part if it was too busy or too thin. In the end, though, I’m pretty proud of this mix. I think it kept the original spirit, but has a hell of a lot more gumption.
